In trying to examine the methodology (if not the motives) of many stalkers / harassers, an analogy comes to mind. Sometimes it makes it easier to take the actions you need if you objectify the culprit, if even only a little bit. You can be sure that if you are suffering at their hands, they have reduced you to nothing more than a "goal".
Try looking at them as a cruel clique with only one permanent member. Something akin to a perfectly personified religious fanatical group; remonstrating loudly to anyone that will listen about the collateral damage they bring upon themselves as a result of actively engaging in self-serving acts of aggression; spreading hate and destruction to anyone and anything deemed a threat or that cannot be bent to their will; and, cultivating new pseudo-members to replace those that have been destroyed, or those who have become obsolete and therefore valueless. They are essentially a desultory “ISIS of one.” He/She will always be the only true member of their little club of hate - all others are genuinely transient, to be used and discarded once their obsequiousness has been exhausted or as this club’s sole permanent core-member’s requirements or strategies change. There may be other pseudo-members in long standing, but they will never be a permanent, invariable element. Their ersatz inclusion will always only be a means to an end.
To make matters worse (as well as to complete the analogy) their success in maintaining the illusion of authenticity and plausibility is bolstered by the greatest malevolent and malicious gift possible - they often truly, and with full faith, believe their own lies.
Their originating motives will be undoubtedly unique to your situation, but there seems to be a common thread in practices. You are an object to be obtained, conquered or destroyed - without stooping, you may want to face them a little closer to how they face you.
