DEALING WITH STALKERS

For those of you who consider your stalker as stupid, please watch out.  They will do with their fists, their weapons (ill-gotten or no) or whatever is handy to physically hurt you.  The dumb ones are easy to catch once their fury is unleashed, but unfortunately - law enforcement is very lax in protecting you before the fact.  Few medals or promotions are handed out for those who prevent; mountainous amounts are bestowed on those who bring justice after the fact.  It's the way it is, others cloud their efforts with minutia.  Buy monitoring equipment to ensure they are caught (if even after the fact), cover yourself financially and ensure that when they violate your rights or the law, it is recorded and documented, and all the things you should do and know you should do, do it - even if it's a bother.  The hunters will not stop, they feed on the hunt - they don't really care about the result.  Sounds counterintuitive, but that doesn't make it any less so.

For those of you who consider your stalker as smart, or wily, or plotting - they are less of a threat physically.  They probably won't ever consider harming you directly.  They are out to destroy your life, and therefore are much more prone to insisting that they remain a part of your day to day thoughts without threatening you with bodily harm.  That's their true motive.  They don't want to kill you, they have some misdirected sense, one of solely inflicting suffering (ooooh! sounds demonic!).  Often, they only want to ensure that you have some misguided sense that they still matter (in every sick sense of that concept).  They will insert themselves into your life, and make sure you look over your shoulder at every turn.  That is what drives them.  How dare you say they are insignificant?

For the former, they are heathens, and simple self protection in probably adequate; something akin to protecting yourself from any predator.  They value themselves above most anything, usually anyway, and protecting yourself is fine in the eyes of the law.  It'll suck, but using force (lethal or no, and only if it comes to it) as they come and attempt to hurt or kill you is a pretty standard defense.  Just make sure you do your homework, and more importantly - your footwork.  Report everything to the police, and make sure your trail is long and not haphazard.  Make sure it is clear, untainted by pure emotion, and provable.  Provide the proof needed for every allegation, and ensure they have it.  You'll need it.

For the latter, patience is what can only be advised.  Let them stew, let them coerce those who are under their influence.  As a matter of course, those who are coerced have no bearing on your day-to-day life anyway.  Let them make the mistake, let them cross the line, let them do something that will get the DA to actually listen to you.  Don't stray from the law, or agreements you have signed, don't give in to momentary desires for incremental justice.  Just wait (easier said than done).  The "smart" ones will screw themselves without any assistance from you.  The more quiet you are, the less they have to manipulate, and the more likely they will repeatedly violate agreements, the law, common decency, you name it.  They often do, and will likely act upon, their own perception of the law, agreements, and social norms as they pertain it to themselves (none).  In short, social norms and the law do not apply, as far as they are concerned anyway.  Let them convince themselves they are right, let them break the law, and let those who have taken an oath sort it out.  It may sound naive, but the only way to win against these soulless individuals is to let the system deal with them.  It'll take a long time though, no doubt about that.  Sorry, you have to let them act, suffer the consequences of their actions, and hopefully you too can get the powers that be to start watching them closely.  Acting out yourself will only hurt your case.  Wait, and let their sense of superiority undo them, let them screw themselves.  They will elevate to actionable activities, they can't lose and that's their undoing

If they are a neanderthal, treat them as such and protect yourself.  They will usually only consider the short term anyway  Your life is in your hands if you don't monitor, document, and stand ready  The stupid ones are usually (not always mind you) short term.  They will divert themselves to more easy prey when it is availed.  However, if they consider themselves immune due to their own opinion of intellectual superiority, just do the hard thing and remain quiet and wait.  They most likely won't pose a physical threat, and they will probably make your life hell on wheels, but they will screw up eventually.  They will overstep their bounds and if you are lucky, it will be documented through a third party - again, eventually.  Use their own sense of immunity as your weapon.  They will become brave, they will break the law, and then you have a case.  It's then up to you to convince someone who has the power to act to actually act.  It won't be easy, there's usually no clear cut case (or motivation like outright theft, or burglary, murder, or extortion for those who are "sworn" to protect you to do so) but there are a few with badges and appointments on their walls who have experienced something akin to your situation.  You have to find those who can empathize or sympathize with your plight, and hopefully know the definitions and distinction between those words.

The bottom line is, you have to convince those people in power who want those medals or accolades (figuratively or no) which are gained by usually bringing perpetrators to justice after the fact to be proactive.  It's the system we live with, right or not.  You have to wait and watch with regard to the those who consider themselves immune, and protect yourself outright against those who have immediate vengeance in mind.  Maybe you too will get lucky and find the one officer, the one district attorney, the one Department of Justice agent who will listen to you and start watching them - in the case of the "smart" ones.  I only hope you find the other humans in our society.  I didn't realize that the decent descriptive "human beings" were so few in number.  We are the minority.
