What is....Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is the harming or harassing via information technology networks in a repeated and deliberate manner. According to U.S. Legal Definitions, "cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other’s minds; or it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming and humiliating them”.

Note: The term "cyberbullying" is generally made in relation to activities with children as targets and the term carries with it that narrowing public perception (judges and juries are the "public" too).  While anyone of any age subject to acts within the description above would consider it extremely damaging and disturbing, cyberharassment and cyberstalking statutes and civil codes mostly do not reflect the damage these same actions would cause an adult.  To add to the confusion, media and other professionals often use the these terms interchangeably.
